Asencio moves the volumes. I do not know the official statistics but I am sure that Asencio sells more than 50% of all meat in the whole Atarazanas market in Malaga measured by weight. There are shops betting on the best premium cuts from rare breeds and then they are butchers who sell tons of the cheapest cuts at an unbelievably low price to the masses. Carnicería Asencio is the example of the latter strategy, and also a living proof that this strategy can be successful.
At this moment Asencio owns the largest area in the market spreading his stalls throughout the whole meat section of the central market. Chicken wings, drumsticks, pork chops, ribs and cubes, cheap beef etc – prices mostly 2 – 5 Euros/kg. The service is quick, professional, not too personal and less than friendly. Do not expect to make friends among the sellers but if you are on a budget and in a mood for meat, this is your choice.
