This is the real authentic “barrio” market with great characters and mostly great fish at the best prices since the beginning in 1923. If you want a quick taste of the traditional malagan market culture this market should be your first choice with its relatively centric location and nontouristic local atmosphere.

The building itself is being refurbished at the moment and everyone hopes that the refurbishment will bring new energy to the place but already now the Mercado Salamanca is a charming neo-arabic structure with an attractive joyful facade.
