The is probably the most picturesque, romantic and poetic of all the Malaga regions. Apart from local artists of limited significance Ronda also bears a strong connection with Ernst Hemingway and surprisingly also with the famous brilliant austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke.
It has an almost incomparable ethnographic heritage where, thanks to the conservation work of its inhabitans for generations, it offers infinite excursions, routes and unforgettable visits. The Natural Park of the Grazalema Mountains, Sierra de las Nieves Mountains, Los Alcornocales mountains, the Buitreras Canyon, the Pinsapal de las Escaleretas or the headstream of the Genal River and the Cat cave in Benaoján are among the most attractive places to visit.
Both nature and culture create the unique atmosphere of the Serrania Region with its authentic and singular towns full of narrow picturesque streets and squares and the very friendly, open character of their people.
It is not difficult to fall in love with this Serrania and its main urban center, the romantic and visually stunning Ronda.
The cuisine in this region is defined by the forest, the fresh herbs, the ancient vine or the soft acorn giving the local variant of the cured ham its characteristic nutty flavour. The pantry of the region includes olive oils from centenarian mills, pigs fed outdoors with all thay could find under the oaks, sheep cheese, desserts made with honey and sweet almonds and all that accompanied by liquors and wines of an exquisite quality.
